Key Features of ClickUp Chrome Extension

Create Tasks & Save Websites as Tasks

With the ClickUp Chrome extension, you can easily create tasks and even save websites as tasks. To create a new task, simply select the "New Task" tab, write a title, add assignees and a due date, write a description, and click "Create New Task". On the other hand, to bookmark a site as a task, click on the "Bookmark" tab which automatically sets the page title & URL as the task title. You can also add a description and attach a screenshot of the website to the task.

Time Tracking

ClickUp's Chrome Extension allows you to easily attach time to tasks. Simply locate a task in the extension and select it to start tracking time. From the "Time Spent" window, you can view time logged on recent tasks and even remove time that was accidentally logged.

Screenshots: Capture, Mark Up, And Edit

Capture your entire browser tab or select a certain area to add to a task or download to your computer. You can also attach the screenshot to an existing task or create a new one. The extension also provides detailed mark up functionality that includes a paintbrush, arrow, line, circle, square, text, blur and numbers tool.

Email: Create Tasks And Attach Emails To Tasks

ClickUp's extension allows you to capture an email and generate a full HTML record of the email. You can attach emails to tasks and create tasks from emails. The email will be attached to a task or a new one will be created with the email attachment included so you can quickly view, jump back, or download the email!

Notepad

You can also access your ClickUp notes from any page. Open the extension to the Notepad tab, and all of your notes are available from ClickUp. Your notes will sync across all your devices. When hovering over a note, you will be able to rename the note, archive, delete, and convert the note to a task.

How these Features Enhance the Browsing Experience

These features of the ClickUp Chrome extension enhance the browsing experience by making it easier and more productive. You can quickly create tasks, bookmark websites, track time spent on tasks, capture and edit screenshots, and even manage your emails and notes directly from your browser. This not only saves time but also improves your workflow and productivity.

Security and Privacy

Extension's Security Analysis

My security analysis has ranks for manifest.json, content script, permissions, and host permissions. The rank is from 0 to 10. The higher the rank, the higher the impact on security. The same is true for permissions weight.

  • Manifest.json rank: 0
  • Content script rank: 8
  • Permissions rank: 5
  • Host permissions rank: 7

Potential Security Concerns or Vulnerabilities

Various permissions requested by this extension carry different weights in terms of their impact on security:

  • tabs, weight 7
  • identity, weight 8
  • activeTab, weight 6
  • downloads, weight 4
  • scripting, weight 8
  • contextMenus, weight 3
  • notifications, weight 4
  • unlimitedStorage, weight 5

Requested Permissions and Their Impact on Security

Requested permissions by an extension can greatly affect the security of the user’s data. For example, an extension with "tabs" permission can access and manipulate the content of all open tabs. This could substantially increase the risk of user data being compromised if the extension is malicious.

Similarly, the "unlimitedStorage" permission allows the extension to store an unlimited amount of data. This permission should be used sparingly, and only when absolutely necessary, as it also could potentially increase the security risk.

It's important for users to carefully examine the permissions requested by an extension before installing it. Not all extensions require these permissions, and it's often possible to find an alternative that meets your needs without compromising your data's security.

User Reviews and Ratings

User reviews on the Chrome Web Store

It's crucial to consider user reviews and ratings on the Chrome Web Store before downloading any extension. Below, I've summarized a few reviews from real users who have experienced ClickUp's Chrome Extension.

  • Kristel Carrington, M.D. rated 4: "I love Clickup. It's definitely a learning curve, but it's such a helpful platform when you really customize it to your needs."
  • Justin Spencer rated 1: "ClickUp has the only development team I have come across where the primary goal of the team/projects is to break the features of ClickUp just enough so that you think it will work, but it won't."
  • Yasmine Robert rated 1: "Ah ah! Click Up don't save time! It's Marketing Only!"
  • Iqra Nasim rated 5: "THIS EXTENSION IS JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE"

Common user feedback and experiences

The feedback from users varies significantly. While some users find ClickUp's Chrome Extension incredibly helpful, others have encountered issues. Users appreciate the customizable features and the ability to capture screenshots, track time, and create tasks from any webpage. However, some users reported issues with the app's functionality and performance.

Positive and negative reviews

Like any other software or tool, ClickUp's Chrome Extension has received mixed reviews. It seems to satisfy the needs of some users, while others have had less positive experiences. This is quite common, as user experiences can vary based on individual preferences and specific needs. Negative reviews often highlight opportunities for improvement, so it's essential for the development team to address these issues to enhance user experiences.

Comparing ClickUp With Similar Extensions

Comparisons with Asana

While both ClickUp and Asana are productivity tools that allow you to create and manage tasks, their functionalities differ in several ways. ClickUp's built-in features such as time tracking, screenshot capturing, and email task creation provide more functionality within a single tool. Asana, on the other hand, mainly focuses on task and project management, with a straightforward approach for assigning tasks, tracking progress, and communicating within teams. Asana's chrome extension does not come with time tracking and screenshot capture features.

Comparisons with Todoist for Gmail

Todoist for Gmail and ClickUp both allow you to convert emails into tasks, helping achieve inbox zero. However, ClickUp goes one step further by providing the ability to attach emails to existing tasks and create new tasks from emails, making it easier for you to organize your inbox. Moreover, while Todoist for Gmail focuses on task management within Gmail, ClickUp extends its features to other webpages, making it easier for you to manage tasks regardless of the webpage you're on.

Comparisons with Clockify Time Tracker

Both ClickUp and Clockify Time Tracker offer the ability to track time spent on tasks. However, ClickUp provides this feature as one of many within its toolbox. In addition to time tracking, ClickUp allows you to create tasks, capture screenshots, and manage emails, making it a comprehensive productivity tool. On the other hand, Clockify Time Tracker mainly focuses on time tracking and integrates with other web apps for additional functionalities.

Key Differentiators and Unique Selling Points

The key differentiator for ClickUp is its comprehensive suite of productivity tools within a single extension. Unlike other extensions like Asana, Todoist for Gmail, and Clockify Time Tracker, which focus on specific areas such as task management or time tracking, ClickUp combines multiple features. This means you can manage tasks, track time, capture screenshots, and manage emails without having to switch between multiple extensions or apps. Moreover, ClickUp is free forever for up to 100MB of file storage, making it a cost-effective solution for productivity management.

Recommendations

Based on these comparisons, ClickUp is recommended for individuals and teams looking for a comprehensive productivity solution that combines task management, time tracking, screenshot capturing, and email management. For users who specifically need a tool for tracking time spent on tasks across different web apps, Clockify Time Tracker would be a better fit. For task management within Gmail, Todoist for Gmail would be a suitable choice, while for straightforward task and project management, Asana would be the best option.

Conclusion

Summarizing the Overall Strengths and Weaknesses of the Extension

ClickUp's Chrome extension stands out as a comprehensive productivity tool, merging several functionalities into one. It excels in task creation, website bookmarking, time tracking, screenshot capturing and editing, email tasking and note taking. The usability of these features directly from the browser is a strength, providing users with an all-in-one productivity solution.

However, the main weakness is the 100MB file storage limit in the free version, which might not be sufficient for heavy users. Also, while the extension offers a vast range of functions, the multitude of features might be overwhelming for some users, creating a steep learning curve.

Final Verdict on the Extension

In conclusion, ClickUp's Chrome extension is worth trying. Its strengths outweigh its weaknesses, especially for users seeking a consolidated platform to manage their productivity needs. The potential learning curve might be a short-term drawback, but the benefits derived from mastering this tool are significant.

Additional Tips or Recommendations for Users

  • Start by exploring one feature at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
  • Before committing to the platform, ensure the 100MB storage limit suits your needs. If not, consider their premium plans.
  • Proactively use the time tracking feature to gain insights into your productivity patterns.
  • Use the screenshot functionality to communicate complex ideas visually.

Overall, ClickUp's Chrome extension has the potential to significantly boost your productivity. For more details on its usage, check out ClickUp's official documentation.

I love Clickup. It's definitely a learning curve, but it's such a helpful platform when you really customize it to your needs.

works perfect for me. not sure what all these noobs are complaining about. all the features are helpful, and you can customize to have it in floating window or not.

ClickUp has the only development team I have come across where the primary goal of the team/projects is to break the features of ClickUp just enough so that you think it will work, but it won't. This is a tricky style of development, so respect. That applies for this extension that had a recent update (last few days), can't even sign in now, 0% functional and it was 80% for the last year. Also, if you are looking at possibly using ClickUp be warned the "two-way sync" aspect of the Google Calendar integration is broke, has been broke for 1.5+ years and if you call Sales, they will tell you it exists and if you email Support, they will pretend that it just recently broke and they are looking into it, then they will tell you to use a combo of Zapier & Make ($$) to create the functionality. If you are considering the Business Plus plan, primarily for the desired feature of "Priority Support", the cheaper Business plan has the same response time on Support issues, 2 days (48h) on average (without getting hourly granular in Excel). I wish I had onboarded with another solution, tons of performance issues in the new 3.0 version.

Lee Schneider

Does not work.

Léo C

Screenshot feature is great but this app suffers from poor ergonomics, design and performances. It seems to be coming from year 98, a shame compared to overall Clickup standards.

Shreyansh Jain

The quality of screenshots when snipping an area are awful. Needs a lot of work. The UI is outdated and does not cover new features such as Clickup AI, task types etc

Chris Hayes

Super useful in gmail. Not a fan of clickup injecting itself on every single website you visit, I recommend changing the extension options to "Site access: on click". gmail usefulness is hampered by the bad UI though. Any time you want to attach an email to task, you have to first find the list (which bugs out 50% of the time and doesn't show anything), and then search for the task. It's just slow. I wish I could just see ~5 recently created/modified tasks and if it's not one of those, be able to search by task name without the list nonsense.

Super Top

Ah ah ! Click Up don't save time ! It's Marketing Only !

So good service and so bad extnesion... for why i can choose text everywhere? button for open

Noé Ismet

While I appreciate the efforts for ClickUp Chrome extension, there is room for improvement if it's intended to become a substitute for apps like Notion. Enhancing its functionality will significantly amplify its appeal and overall usability for the users. Looking forward to the future advancements.

It does not attach the e-mail to the task, nor retrieve the e-mail subject s title

THIS EXTENSION IS JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

Jack Crane

The app does not appear to work on Chromebooks. When you click on the extension it opens a box and then just flickers different colors (does not actually present any content or functionality). I've included a link with a screencast and browser console information to help debugging: https://jam.dev/c/aada6b4d-9fd3-45d4-9ee8-06a2864a4744

Carmella George

This app is a game changer! Does everything! I love it!

Jessia Medeiros

Has potential but I can't get the reminders notifications to work on my desktop app and that is really bummer for me.
